Air Canada announced that Aeroplan points will not expire until November 30, 2026.
What the Extension Means for Members
For Aeroplan members, this means more flexibility. Points that would have expired under the old policy will now remain valid.
You don’t need to redeem or earn points just to avoid losing them—at least not until late 2026. The activity clock that triggers expiry—so long unused—has been suspended.
Why Air Canada Did It
Firstly, travel habits continue to evolve post-pandemic. Many members have lower activity so expiry suspensions help retain loyalty.
Secondly, Air Canada is aligning its loyalty program changes and giving itself time to roll out upcoming policy updates. Aviation industry experts suggest that extending the no-expiry policy also supports engagement.
What Happens Afterwards
Starting November 30, 2026, Aeroplan will resume its standard expiry rule: if your account has no qualifying activity in 18 months, your points expire.
Qualifying activity includes flights credited, partner purchases, redemption, or transfers.
What Members Should Do Now
If you hold Aeroplan points, take note:
- While expiry is paused, it’s still wise to plan redemptions.
- Consider earning or redeeming at least once before late 2026 to reset the activity clock.
- Review partner offers, conversion opportunities and promotions for 2025–26.
- Keeping minimal account activity ensures you don’t face sudden expiry when the policy returns.
Canada’s frequent-traveler programs have often allowed “no expiration as long as there’s activity.” Extending the pause signals that Air Canada remains competitive.
It also gives Canadian travellers more confidence in their accumulated rewards when planning future travel. As loyalty programs worldwide adjust post-COVID, this move positions Aeroplan for a smoother transition.
