Strong Support for Ukraine
At the heart of the meeting, G7 ministers reaffirmed their commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and security. They called for an immediate ceasefire and said negotiations should begin from the current line of contact.
The group also pledged to increase economic pressure on Russia, including exploring coordinated use of frozen Russian sovereign assets to support Ukraine.
They strongly condemned military aid to Russia from North Korea and Iran, and criticized China for supplying weapons or dual‑use components that enable Russia’s war efforts.
They also denounced Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and emphasized the need to ensure Ukraine’s energy security.
Peace and Stability in the Middle East
The G7 statement backed a Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict, calling for continued humanitarian aid and political engagement.
They expressed concern over ongoing hostilities and urged all parties to facilitate unhindered access for aid, particularly through the UN and Red Crescent.
Ministers also urged Iran to comply with its international obligations, including full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
They called for direct negotiations between Iran and the U.S., backed by G7 partners, to de‑escalate tensions.
Indo‑Pacific Tensions and Maritime Threats
The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific. They criticized aggressive behavior in the South China Sea, including water-cannon usage and coercion, and rejected any forced changes to the status quo.
They also condemned nuclear developments in North Korea, demanding its complete denuclearization and criticizing its use of cryptocurrency theft.
China’s growing military power and nuclear build-up also came under scrutiny, with calls for increased transparency.
Tackling Global Crises: Sudan, Haiti, and the DRC
G7 ministers strongly condemned recent violence in Sudan, particularly by the Rapid Support Forces, calling for a permanent ceasefire and immediate humanitarian access.
They also urged external actors to stop fueling the conflict and commit to peace efforts.
The crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) also featured prominently. The G7 called for greater protection of civilians, especially amid allegations of sexual violence, and asked for renewed commitment to the June 27 peace agreement.
Economic Resilience and Critical Minerals
Addressing economic security, the G7 reaffirmed support for its Critical Minerals Action Plan and for strengthening supply chains that are resilient and sustainable.
They expressed concern over market disruptions and non-market economic practices that threaten stability. The ministers committed to reducing dependencies through collective action and building secure partnerships.
Maritime Threats and Hybrid Security Risks
Maritime security was a key focus: the G7 pledged stronger coordination to combat illegal and risky maritime activity, including substandard vessels, illicit fishing, arms trafficking, and drug routes.
They also highlighted threats to undersea infrastructure and vowed to safeguard critical sea routes.
