Canada National Para Hockey Team delivered a strong defensive performance to claim silver at the 2025 Para Hockey Cup.
Road to the Final
Canada entered the tournament with solid momentum. In the preliminary round they beat China Para Hockey Team (7–0) and Czechia Para Hockey Team (3–1).
Later, they downed Czechia again 7–0 in the semifinals. Those victories secured their spot in the gold‑medal match against the United States.
Final Match: Tough Battle, Narrow Loss
In the final, Canada couldn’t overcome the U.S. The Americans scored first via a goal by Brett Bolton at 8:05 of the first period. Then, in the final minute, Brody Roybal found the empty net to seal the 2–0 win.
Meanwhile, Canadian goaltender Corbin Watson stood out making 16 crucial saves and keeping the team alive until the end.
Defence and Forecheck: Canada’s Strengths
Coach Boris Rybalka emphasized that the team’s forecheck and defensive pressure worked well throughout the tournament. The aggressive forecheck allowed Canada to force turnovers and generate scoring chances.
Captain Tyler McGregor, team’s top point-getter with six goals and three assist echoed that sentiment, noting the group created many opportunities thanks to their defense-first approach.
Looking ahead to the Paralympic Games
With the tournament over, the focus now turns to the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina. The Canadian team will hold training camps in Calgary (January 8–20) and Oakville (February 9–19).
McGregor emphasizes that the team is seeking consistency and execution in crucial moments to arrive strong at the Paralympics.
