The Foreign Relations and National Defense Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved visa exemptions for tourists from the United States, Canada, and Australia.

Visits for up to 90 days

The project allows tourists from these countries to enter for up to 90 days, with the possibility of renewal for another 90 days. Thus, the government is working to boost the sector during the 2026 high season.

Reciprocity and simplification

Currently, these visitors need a visa to enter Brazil. However, Brazilians can already enter the three countries as tourists without major requirements.

Therefore, the exemption seeks balance and facilitates travel in both directions.

Next steps in Congress

The project will proceed to analysis by other committees. After that, it will go to the Senate and, finally, to presidential approval.

The process may take several months, but the progress is encouraging for the tourism sector.

Immediate economic impacts

Business owners and tourism entities state that this change could increase the number of foreign visitors. Tourists from the USA, Canada, and Australia tend to spend more on accommodation, food, and leisure.

As a result, local businesses tend to benefit.

Brazil More Competitive on the Global Map

With this measure, Brazil seeks to reduce barriers to entry and strengthen its image in the international travel market.

The country aims to become a more attractive destination amidst strong competition within South America.
